The Catawba Ridge Copperheads track team recently won the Region 3-4A boys and girls track titles in convincing fashion.

Catawba Ridge girls scored 116 points besting host York, who ended up with 91 points, good enough for second place. South Pointe was third with 80 points, Indian Land was fourth with 58 points, and Lancaster finished fifth with 30 points.

The Copperheads’ Tatum Postel came up big at the region meet winning three events for the girls. Postel won the high jump clearing 4 feet, 8 inches; the pole vault clearing 9 feet, 6 inches; and the long jump leaping 15 feet, 7 inches. Olivia Dubrow won the javelin with a throw of 79 feet, 3.5 inches.

In the track events, Avery Shope won two events for the Copperheads with a win in the 800-meters in 2:30.80 and the 3,200-meters in 12:19.75. Maddy Mack won the 1,600-meters for Catawba Ridge in 5:36.36 and Riley Shope won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:15.84. The Copperheads also won the 4×800-meter relay in 10:25.88.

On the boy’s side of things, Catawba Ridge were even more dominate than the girl’s team racking up 186 points. South Pointe was second with 90 points, followed by York with 51 points and Indian Land with 30 points. Lancaster was fifth with 15 points.

The Copperheads had two athletes with two wins each as Thomas Maxwell won the javelin with a throw of 142 feet and the discus with a throw of 139 feet, 5 inches. Sam Rich won the two distance events for Catawba Ridge winning the 1,600-meters in 4:20.08 and the 3,200-meters in 9:12.46. Catawba Ridge also won two relay events in the 4×400 in 3:37.50 and the 4×800 in 8:25.66.

Catawba Ridge had four more winners in Caden Westover, who won the 800-meters in 2:06.36, and Jonathan Hairston in the 400-meter in 51.14 in track events, while Forrest Rozelle won the pole vault as he cleared 11 feet and Kayden Hager won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 4.5 inches.

Catawba Ridge will now turn its attention to the 4A state qualifier next Saturday.
