The Catawba Ridge Copperheads didn’t find the same luck as they did last week in this week’s game against a North Carolina opponent.

Catawba Ridge fell to South Meck 17-3 and drop to 3-2 on the season. It was the Copperheads second consecutive game against a North Carolina opponent as they beat West Cabarrus last week 21-14.

South Meck scored first in the first quarter as Tiques Mallette caught a touchdown pass to put the Sabers up 7-0 after the extra point. With three minutes left in the half, South Meck hit a field goal to take a 10-0 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, things didn’t get any better for Catawba Ridge as South Meck scored towards the end of a third quarter to go up 17-0. The Copperheads were able to kick a field goal in the fourth quarter to prevent a shutout, but South Meck improved to 4-1 overall on the season with the win.

Catawba Ridge is off next week and will next play again at home Oct. 1 against South Pointe to open their Region 3-4A schedule. The Oct. 1 game will also be Homecoming for the Copperheads.
