Catawba Ridge girls golf team was victorious in the Lady Trojans Invitational tourney Monday at Rock Hill Country Club.

ROCK HILL – The Catawba Ridge girls golf team won the Lady Trojans Invitational by nine strokes Monday at the Rock Hill Country Club.

The 10-team tournament saw the Copperheads beat Lexington for the title as Catawba Ridge shot a 337 as a team over the 18-hole tournament. Lexington was right behind them with a 346 good enough for second place. Catawba Ridge golfer Eileen Zeoli was medalist for the tournament with a 77 (40-37).

Following Zeoli was an 85 (41-44) from Katherine Mann and then an 87 (42-45) from Kate Gilmore. Reagan Lynch finished off the scoring for the Copperheads with an 88 (45-43).

First year head coach for Catawba Ridge Chris Powers said he was pleased with the Copperheads, but knows this team’s potential is very high.

“I felt like we are capable of going lower,” he said. “I told them to just focus on the score, you can score. We will get our chances. Stay in the moment, stay positive and have fun.”

Nation Ford, who finished third with a 372, had Vivian Harris a stroke behind Zeoli with a 78 (40-38) for second place as an individual.

Sara McCaskill finished with a 91 (45-46) following Harris’ score for the Falcons. Piper Sabino finished with a 98 (48-50) for Nation Ford and Katie Griggs finished with a 105 (56-49).

Fort Mill finished fifth overall in the tournament with a 390. They were led by an 81 (43-38) from Mackenzie Finn and then a 100 (54-46) from Sam Benton. Cayla Cappuzzo shot a 101 (52-49) and Ava Starosky finished with a 108 (51-57) for the Jackets.

Nation Ford and Catawba Ridge are schedule to square off Wednesday, Sept. 14 at Fort Mill Golf Club. Fort Mill is next scheduled to play in a tri-match Wednesday at Spring Lake Country Club in York.
