The Catawba Ridge girls’ basketball team continues to improve as they used a quick start to pull away for a 45-34 win over Charlotte Latin.

Catawba Ridge was led by sophomore Tatum Postel and freshman Morgan Davis in the win to improve to 5-1. Postel scored 13 points and Davis added 12 points.

The Copperheads went up 24-6 at the half jumping out to a comfortable lead at the Arena. Catawba Ridge will travel to Fort Mill Friday to play the Yellow Jackets for the second time this season.

Things in the boys’ game didn’t go as well as they were beat 67-42 by Charlotte Latin to fall to 2-3 on the season.

Catawba Ridge went down by a dozen at that half trailing 29-17 after struggling in the first quarter. Charlotte Latin led 17-5 after one and despite matching them point for point in the second quarter, the Copperheads weren’t able to make up any ground.

The second half was much of the same as Latin outscored them in both the third and fourth quarters. Sophomore Grant Lovette led Catawba Ridge with 14 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Catawba Ridge was supposed to play Fort Mill Friday, but won’t as Fort Mill boys will miss this week of games after a positive COVID-19 test within their program. The test occurred last week cancelling their game against the Copperheads as well.

The Fort Mill boys’ games against York and Catawba Ridge are postponed this week, but the girls’ varsity game against York continued.

Fort Mill girls win

The Lady Jackets improved to 3-3 on the season with a 48-32 win over York Tuesday night.

Fort Mill came out of the locker room at the half tied at 19 and then outscored the Cougars 21-11 in the third to go on and get the win.

They will now host Catawba Ridge Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at home. They lost to the Copperheads 34-28 in a very defensive battle less than a week ago.

Nation Ford swept by Rock Hill

Both the Nation Ford boys’ and girls’ basketball teams were swept by Rock Hill Tuesday night in Rock Hill.

The Nation Ford girls fell to Rock Hill for the fourth time this season losing 47-33 to fall to 3-7 overall. The girls’ game was close after the first quarter, but Rock Hill started to pull away in the second quarter and took a 25-17 lead into the locker room. Senior Payton Brookover led the Falcons with 14 points.

The Falcons tried to close the gap in the second half, but were held off again by the Bearcats.

In the boys’ game, Nation Ford fell 62-42 to Rock Hill and dropped to 1-6 on the season.

The Falcons were led by Quadeir Hand with 13 points in the loss, as Rock Hill used a 22-10 third quarter run to pull away from Nation Ford.

Rock Hill led 23-16 at the half, but used the third quarter to distance themselves. Nation Ford rallied some in the fourth, but wasn’t able to really put a dent into Rock Hill’s lead.

The two schools are scheduled to meet a final time in the regular season Friday at Nation Ford with the girls starting at 6 p.m. with the boys’ game following thereafter.
