Grant Lovette led Catawba Ridge with 25 points Friday night against Northwestern to have the Copperheads collect a share of the region title.

With wins by Catawba Ridge, South Pointe and Lancaster Friday night, the Catawba Ridge Copperheads clinched a share of the Region 3-4A basketball titles for both the boys and the girls teams.

Catawba Ridge boys beat Northwestern 73-63 and was led by Grant Lovette’s 25 points. Catawba Ridge finished the regular season at 21-4 and 8-2 overall in the region.

Lancaster outlasted Indian Land on the road in double overtime to get a 96-91 win and also finish 8-2 overall in the region. With Lancaster winning, both them and the Copperheads share the region title, but the Bruins get the No. 1 seed while Catawba Ridge gets the No. 2 seed because of point differential between the two. Lancaster beat Catawba Ridge by four Jan. 17, but lost to them Feb. 3 by just three points. Both teams will have home games in the first round.

The Lady Copperheads easily took care of business Friday night and beat Northwestern 66-36 to finish the regular season at 20-4 and 9-1 in the region.

The Catawba Ridge girls share the region title with South Pointe who won over York 64-19 Friday night to also finish 9-1 in the region. The Lady Copperheads should have the No. 1 seed having beaten South Pointe by nine points Jan. 27, and only losing to them Jan. 10 by seven points. Both teams would have home games in the first round.

The 4A boy’s playoffs start Wednesday, Feb. 15 and the 4A girl’s playoffs start Thursday, Feb. 16.
