Nation Ford’s Hailey Albert goes for a tip against Easley during their match.

The Nation Ford girls’ volleyball team cruised to a three-set win in the second round of the 4A playoffs.

Nation Ford won 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-13) against the Easley Green Wave and will now host a third-round match against the Riverside Warriors on Thursday, Oct. 29. The Falcons have home-court advantage through the playoffs.

“It was a good start to the postseason,” said Nation Ford assistant coach Betsi O’Sheilds, who was filling in for head coach Craig Brown who was out because of a death in his family. “The girls played up and were energetic.”

Playing for the first time in 11 days, Nation Ford came out a little slow as Easley stayed with them through the first 12 points tied at six.

The Falcons then scored five straight and found a rhythm that would benefit them the rest of the match. Nation Ford continued to pull away and was easily the better team going up 23-11 before closing out the set.

The Falcons opened the second set scoring the first five points. Early in the set, Nation Ford’s Lila Martin set the single season ace record for the Falcons with her 108th ace in the season.

Nation Ford wasted no time in pulling away as they went up 14-4 before an Easley timeout. The Falcons continued to pepper kills all over the floor to go up 2-0 in the match.

The final set started off like the previous ones ended with Nation Ford going up 5-2 in the early going.

Easley showed some life pulling within three at 11-8 before a Nation Ford timeout. The Falcons came out of the timeout and rattled off four straight points to again widen the gap.

The Falcons continued to be strong at the net getting the three-set sweep in 61 minute.  Nation Ford improved to 28-4 overall on the season.
