The Catawba Ridge girls’ tennis team took a key Region 3-4A win over rival Nation Ford.

Catawba Ridge won 5-1 winning four of the five matches in straight sets to improve to 4-1 on the season and 3-0 in the region.

The one match that went three sets for the Copperheads was at No. 1 singles as Abby Russell beat Nation Ford’s Eva Mabey 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.

Catawba Ridge also won at No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5 singles to go with a doubles win.  At No. 2 singles, the Copperheads’ Elaina Beilstein won 6-3, 6-2 over Jiya Guntuboyina for the Falcons. Gracyn Root won at No. 4 singles for the Copperheads 6-1, 6-2 over Nation Ford’s Gabby Vizzini and Gigi Miller also won for Catawba Ridge at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Alexandra Simants for the Falcons.

The only Nation Ford win came from Anna Overcash at No. 3 singles who won after a retirement from Catawba Ridge’s Brooklynn Schuyler.

In the only doubles match, the Copperheads’ Kaitlyn Wood and Jane Rohrmeir won 6-4, 6-1 over the Falcons’ Claire Kaltenbach and Reagan Mullinix.

The Fort Mill girls’ volleyball team beat Forestview on the road 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-9) improving to 6-3 on the season.

On Tuesday, the Nation Ford swim team swept a quad-meet beating Riverwalk 267-29, Northwestern 220-106, and South Pointe 262-42. Winning for Nation Ford was Kenna Zimmerly – 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, Abby Garcia – 200-yard IM and 100-yard breaststroke, Nicho Giraldo – 200-yard IM, Tyler Glover – 50-yard freestyle, Gray Reiger – 100-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle, Gabrielle Costa – 100-yard butterfly, and Gracie Shang – 500-yard freestyle.
