Winter sports return on Thursday, Feb. 5 with Region 3-5A basketball and wrestling playoffs after getting off schedule due to being out of school because of winter weather.

The wrestling playoffs have been modified to finish with the finals next Wednesday, Feb. 11. The third round and Upper State finals are scheduled to be held Saturday, Feb. 7, when the state finals were originally scheduled. They will be held at the highest remaining seed’s location.

No. 1 seed Fort Mill wrestling host Northwestern and Woodruff to open the playoffs starting at 1 p.m. at Fort Mill High School on Thursday. Northwestern and Woodruff open with their first-round match with the Jackets wrestling the winner in the second round afterwards.

No. 6 seed Catawba Ridge wrestling travels to TL Hanna High School to face Gaffney in the first round with the winner facing TL Hanna.

No. 10 seed Nation Ford wrestling travels to Eastside High School to take on Greenville in the first round with the winner taking on Eastside in the second round afterwards.

Basketball

Basketball also returns on Thursday, Feb. 5. Fort Mill will host Northwestern. Their game was originally scheduled for this past Tuesday, Feb. 2. Fort Mill girls have won two region games in a row, against strong opponents, while the Fort Mill boys have dropped two in a row.

Catawba Ridge will head to Indian Land High School also on Thursday. They were also scheduled to play on Tuesday. Catawba Ridge boys’ sit at 4-4 in the region, while the girls’ team sits at 3-5 in the region.

Nation Ford’s basketball rescheduled their game at Rock Hill High for Wednesday, Feb. 11. That game was originally scheduled for this past Tuesday as well. Nation Ford will next play at Catawba Ridge on Friday, Feb. 6. Nation Ford girls’ team is 5-3 in the region, while the boys’ team is 4-4.
