
BLUFFTON – Another tournament and another win for the Fort Mill wrestling team.
Fort Mill won the US Army Shark Invitational at May River High School beating 34 other schools. Fort Mill had 247.5 points in the individual tournament with two wrestlers – Lincoln Greene and Ted Ernst each winning their weight classes. Fort Mill had 11 of 13 wrestlers place in the tournament.
The two-day tournament started on Monday, Dec. 29 and culminated on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
Greene won at 150-pounds going 4-0 in the tournament. He picked up two pins, a tech fall, and a 9-4 decision in the finals over Hanahan’s Jackson Stuckey.
Ernst won at 215-pounds, also going 4-0 in the tournament. He won two matches by tech fall and two by pin including the finals against Beaufort’s Colton Freeman.
Jayden Nguyen (144) finished second falling in the finals to Lucy Beckham’s Matthew Spignardo.
Keenan Coston (157), Broden Mitcheson (165), Lucas Van Beynum (126), and Peter Escudero (106) all finished third at the event. Krystian Villatoro (hwt.) finished fifth; Brody Harris (120), Cooper Van Beynum (138), and Grayson Wallen (132) finished sixth.
Fort Mill wasn’t the only local school there as Catawba Ridge was also well represented. The Copperheads finished seventh with 124.5 points as they were led by Alex Johnson at heavyweight, who won his weight class going 4-0 and getting pins in every match, including the finals where he beat South Effingham (Ga.)’s Kevin Steptoe.
Catawba Ridge had three other wrestlers place in the tournament as both Jacob McClure (113) and Taylon Winker (120) each finished third. Archer Rozelle (150) finished fifth overall in his weight class.
