
In their only scheduled home meet of the season, the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets swept what was the equivalent to the Region 3-5A meet in a seven-team meet.
All seven Region 3-5A teams ran at the Anne Springs Close Greenway on Tuesday, Sept. 2 with Fort Mill winning both the boys’ and girls’ races.
The Fort Mill girls won with 17 points. Northwestern was second with 83 points, followed by Clover (85), Catawba Ridge (89), Nation Ford (111), Rock Hill (167), and Indian Land (198).
Fort Mill’s Kaylee Rovenstine won the girls’ race in 18:06 and was followed by teammate Alivia Cleveland in 18:55. Marlee Cook was third for the Jackets in 19:03, with Mia Zook being fifth overall in 19:33 and Lauren Allen finishing sixth in 19:36.
Isabella Cardozo led Catawba Ridge with a fourth-place finish in 19:20. Alaina Kilpatrick was 16th in 21:04 and Zadia Wilkerson was 29th in 21:52. Olivia Gillespie was 42nd in 23:03 and Maeve Beard was 48th in 23:29 to round out the scoring for the Copperheads.
Nation Ford was led by Addison Eastley, who finished 11th in 20:23, and Haley Garcia, who was 17th in 21:30. Elise Posko finished 41st in 23:02 and Isabella Seymour was 47th in 23:28 for the Falcons. Annabelle Clemente rounded out the scoring for Nation Ford with a 49th place finish in 23:31.
The Fort Mill and Catawba Ridge boys had a tight race with the Jackets coming out ahead by just two points. Fort Mill scored 29 points, while Catawba Ridge had 31. Nation Ford was third with 124 points. Following them were Northwestern (127), Indian Land (134), Clover (136), and Rock Hill (166).
Fort Mill’s Connor Demmerle won in 16:09 for the Jackets. Owen Ware was third in 16:14 and Finn Leckrone was fourth in 16:31. Ben Madej was ninth in 17:19 and Zack Larner was 12th in 17:26 to finish the scoring for the Jackets.
The Copperheads were led by Ryan Pierson’s second place finish in 16:12. He was followed by Lincoln Smith in 16:56 in fifth and William Kowalski in 17:06. Aiden Rogers was eighth in 17:12 and Landry MacDonald rounded out the Catawba Ridge top five in 10th in 17:21.
Nation Ford was led by Nick Lasala in 23rd in 18:11. He was followed in 24th by teammate Alex Royall in 18:12 and then Robert Saddler in 25th in 18:13. Sparsh Vaghani was 48th for the Falcons in 19:28 and Caleb Henry was 57th for Nation Ford in 19:53.
All three local schools will be participating in the Trojan Invitational this weekend at Northwestern High School.
Sept. 2 Roundup
The Fort Mill girls’ tennis team beat Catawba Ridge on the road 4-2. Getting wins for Fort Mill was Abhi Nallareddy in No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-4; Kendall McCarty in No. 2 singles 6-3, 7-6 (7-3); Avalon Stevens in No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-2; and Sofia Burger and Smriti Kirubakaran in No. 2 doubles 6-2, 6-3. Winning for Catawba Ridge was Abby Russell in No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-4 and Kaitlyn Wood 6-4 in No. 5 singles. Fort Mill improved to 2-0 on the season, while Catawba Ridge dropped to 0-1 on the season.
The Nation Ford girls’ tennis team opened their season with a 5-1 win over Northwestern High School giving new head coach Adam Grynberg his first win as head coach.
The Catawba Ridge boys’ volleyball team beat Fort Mill 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-16) to improve to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in Region 3-5A play. Fort Mill dropped to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in region play.
The Nation Ford boys’ volleyball team beat Northwestern 3-2 (16-25, 19-25, 25-20, 26-24, 15-11) to improve to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in Region 3-5A.
The Nation Ford girls’ volleyball team beat Northwestern 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-8) to improve to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in Region 3-5A.
