
A gem of a game thrown from Fort Mill Post 43 Juniors pitcher Cole MacIntyre led them to another win in the American Legion Junior State Championship tournament at Fort Mill High School.
Fort Mill beat Richland Post 215 with a 1-0 score as they were able to get timely hitting when they needed it.
Post 43 met a familiar opponent in Richland Post 215 having lost to them twice last week. The win put Fort Mill at 15-5 on the season.
The game on Monday saw a pitcher’s duel between MacIntyre for Fort Mill and Richland’s Brady Evans.
Despite getting hits and base runners on, neither team broke through until Post 43 scored in the top of the fourth.
Jack Provenzano had a two out single and scored on a single by Matthew Scott to put Fort Mill up 1-0.
Post 43 was the away team being the lower seed in the tournament.
MacIntyre was spot on in the game pitching all seven innings allowing no runs on five hits, while walking one and striking out four.
Fort Mill had just four hits in the game, but capitalized on them. Provenzano went 2-3 and Scott went 1-3 with an RBI.
Post 43 remains in the winner’s bracket and will play North Augusta at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22 in the junior state semifinals. The other semifinals game on July 22 will be Lexington vs. Richland with the finals being on Wednesday, July 23.
In other games on Monday in the state tournament, North Augusta eliminated Socastee 7-1 and Lexington eliminated Florence 6-1.

The Fort Mill Post 43 Seniors opened their first-round playoff series against Easley Post 52 after the three Junior tournament games.
Post 43 fell to Easley 13-5 falling to 10-10 on the season and going down 1-0 to Easley in their best of three series. Game two is at Easley on July 22.
