The Catawba Ridge Copperheads dropped both ends of a tri-match against Rock Hill and Indian Land.

In the Copperheads first match against Rock Hill, the Bearcats would pick up a 49-27 win.

The two teams started off by trading first period pins as Taylon Winker (113) opened the match with a win for the Copperheads.

Rock Hill then won five straight, four of them by pin to go up 28-6.

Cole Stukitz (150) picked up a 9-5 win and Ryan Stukitz (165) would win by forfeit for Catawba Ridge.

Andrew Coursey (175) got a first period pin for the Copperheads to make it 34-21 putting them within striking distance.

Rock Hill won at 190-pounds to clinch the match, but the Copperheads’ Alex Johnson (215) would grab a win by forfeit for their last win of the dual.

The Copperheads dropped the second part of the tri-match with a 55-21 loss to the Warriors.

Against Indian Land, the Warriors opened at 120-pounds and won the first six matches all by pin to go up 36-0 before Clark Ostendorf (157) picked up a first period pin for the Copperheads.

The Warriors would then win three consecutive matches before Catawba Ridge’s Shane Corley (215) would win with a second period pin.

The Copperheads Jacob McClure (106) picked up a 9-4 decision and Winker (113) closed the dual out with a second period pin.

The losses dropped Catawba Ridge to 7-3 overall and 1-3 in Region 3-5A.

Jan. 16 Roundup

The Nation Ford Falcons wrestling team beat Northwestern 44-34 on the Falcons senior night. Nation Ford improved to 6-10 overall and 1-3 in Region 3-5A.
