Nation Ford’s Lorenzo Smith wrestles at 215-pounds for the Falcons against Clover Thursday night.

The Nation Ford wrestling team dropped two Region 3-5A matches Thursday at home in a tri-match.

Nation Ford fell hard to Clover 62-9, but performed better against Rock Hill despite losing 53-24.

“We got a young team dealing with a lot of injuries,” said Falcons head coach Dan Snell. “We faced two quality teams that can hurt you really fast. We just have to get our guys ready for February.”

Clover got a good start against Nation Ford as they got forfeit wins at 113 and 120-pounds to jump out to a 12-0 lead.

The Blue Eagles won four straight by pin before another Nation Ford forfeit. Clover went up 47-0 before the closest match of the dual with the Blue Eagles getting a slim 5-4 win over Camron Magyer.

The Blue Eagles would go up 53-0 before Derek Bylone van Sandwyk for the Falcons picked up their first win at 190-pounds with a first period pin.

Lorenzo Smith (215) picked up a win with a 13-2 major decision for the Falcons.

Clover closed out the dual getting wins at heavyweight and 106-pounds.

The Rock Hill dual started like the Clover dual with a forfeit at 120-pounds. The Bearcats then took off winning the next four matches to go up 29-0.

Nation Ford got a win at 150-pounds with a first period pin by Jace Smith. After the win by Smith, Rock Hill then won the next two, one by forfeit. 

The Falcons bounced back with a win at 175-pounds by Sulaymon Asaturov with a second period pin.

Lorenzo Smith (215) grabbed his second win of the evening with a second period pin and Michael Kay (hwt.) got a second period pin as well.

Rock Hill finished the dual with two wins, one coming by forfeit.

Nation Ford is now 5-10 overall on the season and 0-3 in the region.

The Fort Mill wrestling team improved to 11-0 on the season with a 74-0 win over Northwestern and are now 2-0 in Region 3-5A.

The Nation Ford varsity basketball teams were swept by Rock Hill on the road. The girls team fell 57-32 and are now 8-8 on the season and 2-1 in Region 3-5A. The boys fell 63-57 and are now 7-8 overall and 0-3 in region play.

The Catawba Ridge varsity basketball teams split their games with Indian Land on the road. The Lady Copperheads won 51-44 to improve to 7-8 overall on the season and 2-1 in Region 3-5A. The Catawba Ridge boys fell 50-36 to drop to 8-9 overall and 1-2 in the region. Elijah Peters led Catawba Ridge with 12 points.
