LANCASTER – The Catawba Ridge Copperheads golf team came up a little short and finished second at the Region 3-4A golf tournament Thursday.
Catawba Ridge shot a 323 as a team at the Lancaster Golf Club in the 18-hole tournament. The Copperheads were bested by eight strokes to region winner Indian Land, who was led by Mason Kucia who shot a three-under 69, the only score in the tournament under par. Indian Land shot a 315 as a team to win the tournament.
The Copperheads were led by OT Mitchell, who shot a two over 74 and was followed by Hunter Warren with a score of 79. Parrish Fox shot an 82 and Emerson Hill finished with an 88 for Catawba Ridge.
Coming up for Catawba Ridge on May 9 is the 4A Upper State tournament at The Links at Stoney Pointe in Greenwood. The 4A state championship is being held at Forest Lake Club in Columbia May 16-17 the week after.
In other golf related action from Thursday, Nation Ford beat both Fort Mill and Clover at Springfield Golf Club. The Falcons shot a 159 and was led by a 36 from Ben Mills. That score was followed with a 39 from Ben Wakefield and a 41 from TJ Miller. Matt Bowman rounded out the scoring for Nation Ford with a 43. Fort Mill shot a 175 and was led by a 41 from Baker Tolentino and a 44 from Austin Anderson. Cade Bettie and Parker Harrigan each shot a 45 for the Jackets. Clover finished with a 180 as a team.
Up next for all three Region 3-5A teams is the region tournament Monday, May 2 at Chester Golf Club.
