Fort Mill’s Arnav Meshram returns a shot during his match against Nation Ford Thursday.

The Fort Mill boys’ tennis team clinched second place in Region 3-5A with a 4-2 win over rival Nation Ford Thursday.

Fort Mill won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, as well as No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles. The Jackets’ Zach Hughes won at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-1 over the Falcons’ Aryan Goel and Arnav Meshram won for Fort Mill at No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-1 over Nation Ford’s Zach Robinson.

The Jackets also got wins from No. 5 singles Jack Childs as he beat Nation Ford’s Owen McCullough in three sets 1-6, 7-6, 10-2. Fort Mill also won in doubles with Cade Simms and Lucas Coelho winning 6-0, 6-0 over Davis Glasco and Luke Clendening.

Winning for Nation Ford was George Lynch at No. 1 singles over Fort Mill’s Clay Wilson 6-3, 6-4 and then at No. 4 singles as Jaideep Tatineni for the Falcons beat Fort Mill’s Xander Pak 6-3, 4-6, 11-9.

With the win, Fort Mill will host a playoff match at home, while Nation Ford will have to open the playoffs on the road.

The win put Fort Mill at 9-3 overall on the season and 7-3 in the region. The loss dropped Nation Ford to 9-4 overall and 6-4 in the region.

The Fort Mill softball team fell to the Lewisville Lions at home 18-6 to drop to 5-8 overall on the season. Fort Mill made multiple errors as the Lions scored eight runs in the top of the first inning to set the pace for the game. Brooke Rosario and Ava DiPetro each had two hits for Fort Mill.
