High School Baseball in Fort Mill

The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets baseball team opened their spring break tournament in the Southeastern Classic in Hartsville, S.C. with a 3-2 in over the Andrew Jackson Volunteers Tuesday.

Fort Mill got a complete game performance on the mound from Alex Carreiro who allowed just two runs on four hits, while striking out three and walking two. The win pushed Fort Mill to 10-2 on the season overall.

The Jackets went up 2-0 after the first two innings, but Andrew Jackson came back to plate two runs in the third inning to tie the game up.

Carter Blankinship got Fort Mill on the board in the opening inning and David Krise added the second run in the second inning. Blankinship was key for Fort Mill in the game going 3-3 at the plate as the Jackets had just five hits in the contest.

The game winning run for Fort Mill came in the sixth inning as JB Walters knocked in Blankinship on a sacrifice fly with two outs.

Fort Mill plays Georgia Premier Academy on Wednesday in game two of their near week-long series.

Nation Ford

The Nation Ford won for the second day in a row with a 6-0 shutout over the Cuthbertson Cavaliers in the Rescue Lock and Key Invitational at Nation Ford High. The Falcons are now 7-8 on the season.

Ben Chuttey and Jacob Touchstone combined for a one-hitter as Chuttey went four innings allowing one hit for the win, while the two combined for four walks.

The Falcons scattered seven hits and used the fourth and fifth innings to get all the runs they needed.

Simon Fernandez led at the plate as he went 2-4, while Hunter Mac went 1-3 with two RBIs. Both Mac and Fernandez slapped doubles in the game.

Fernandez and Bradyn Deaton led the fourth inning off with singles. Miles Baker reached on an error and then another error scored both Fernandez and Deaton. Alex Smith then knocked in Baker on a single to give Nation Ford a 3-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, Fernandez led off with a double, while Deaton would walk. Baker singled to lead the bases, while a walk to Cooper Mitchell would score a run before Mac doubled to score Deaton and Baker.

Nation Ford is schedule to play Weddington tomorrow at 7 p.m. for the final day of the invitational.

Catawba Ridge

The Catawba Ridge Copperheads used a big seventh inning to beat the Cox High School Falcons from Virginia Beach, Va. 7-4 in day two of the Hanahan Invitational Tournament in Hanahan, S.C.

The Copperheads scored four runs in the seventh inning, while leading 3-2 at that point of the game.

Catawba Ridge was strong at the plate with a 10-hit game led by a 3-4 performance at the plate from Jackson Mullen. Owen Noonan and Ben Wilson each had two hits for the Copperheads. Wilson drove in three with the help of a home run. Ethan Solnick also hit a home run in going 1-4 in the game.

Peyton Dhein went five innings for the win allowing two runs on four hits, while walking one and striking out nine. Bryce Meil pitched a scoreless sixth inning and Caden Glauber pitched the seventh inning and allowed two runs on one, while walking one and striking out three.

The win improves Catawba Ridge to 15-1 overall on the season.
