Fort Mill’s Sebastian Colon wrestles with Rock Hill’s Colton Smith during the Upper State finals at 113-pounds.

Four Fort Mill Yellow Jackets wrestlers qualified for the 5A individual state tournament on day one of the Upper State tournament held at Nation Ford High Friday.

Led by Sebastian Colon, who won the Upper State championship at 113-pounds, Aidan Eubanks (106), Noah Kitchton (126) and Joshua Sturgeon (132) also qualified for the state tournament at Dreher High School March 6. Fort Mill will have four more wrestlers going on day two of the tournament Saturday. Day one of the tournament saw just wrestlers in the 106-132 weight class participate.

Colon won 8-2 in beating Rock Hill’s Colton Smith in the finals. Eubanks, Kitchton and Sturgeon all qualified by finishing in the top three in the tournament. The tournament usually takes the top four wrestlers from each weight class, but are cutting back to just the top three this year because of COVID-19.

Eubanks finished second at 106-pounds falling to Clover’s Jaden Charles in the finals. Kitchton finished second at 126-pounds by winning the consolation bracket to place third and then getting a first period pin in the wrestle-back for second place beating Jalan Vandiver from TL Hanna. Sturgeon finished third as well beating Rock Hill’s Ozzie Pullin 10-0 in the consolation finals.

Day two of the tournament will see TJ Miller (138), Brian Kelley (160), Kannon Osborne (182) and Connor Montgomery (195) go through their respective brackets for Fort Mill.

Nation Ford, who didn’t have any wrestlers participate in day one of the tournament, will have four wrestlers on day two with Caden Brandenburg (145), Steven Johnson (152), Isaac Nieves (160) and Clayton Rygol (220) all wrestling.
