CHESNEE – The Fort Mill volleyball team went on a journey to Chesnee Saturday to defend their championship in the Eagles Invitational volleyball tournament and when the day had come to an end, the Yellow Jackets were coming back home with their second straight tournament championship.

The tournament saw the presence of former region mates Boiling Springs and Gaffney, along with another 5A school in Spartanburg. The field also included Broome, Crest (NC), Daniel, Fountain Inn, Kings Mountain, RS Central (NC), Woodruff, and host school Chesnee.

Fort Mill started the day off with a victory in their first match over Broome (25-20, 25-10) before grabbing another victory over Spartanburg (25-17, 25-11) to improve to 2-0 in the morning session of the tournament.

They finished off pool play with a 3-0 record by defeating RS Central (25-15, 25-20) to move into the gold bracket of the tournament and a chance at the tournament championship.

In the championship bracket, the Yellow Jackets defeated Daniel (25-21, 25-22) to move into the championship match against Kings Mountain, who they eventually defeated for the tournament championship (25-22, 25-20) and to finish the tournament undefeated with a 5-0 record.

Fort Mill will return to the court on Tuesday when they host a non-region matchup against Northwestern. The tournament championship now puts the Jackets at 8-2 overall on the season.
