Fort Mill’s Lincoln Greene lifts his opponent during their match Wednesday night at Fort Mill High School.

The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets rolled through the Rock Hill Bearcats to get a key Region 3-5A victory Wednesday evening.

Fort Mill won 50-21, but the match was a lot closer in the early going.

“I knew they would be good,” said Fort Mill head wrestling coach Adam Marullo. “They have tough kids. We have some strong light weights, but our heavier weights are good too.”

The match opened at 144-pounds with Aidan Eubanks getting a third period pin. The Bearcats came back to tie the match at 150-pounds.

Broden Mitcheson picked up a 11-4 decision at 157-pounds to put Fort Mill back on top. Rock Hill took their first lead at 12-9 with a second period pin at 165-pounds.

Theodore Ernst (175) held on for a 4-3 decision for the Jackets to tie the match at 12 and Sebastian Villatoro (190) got a forfeit win for Fort Mill.

Fort Mill got a huge win at 215-pounds as Joseph Richardson rallied after getting lifted and slammed to pick up a second period pin for the Jackets.

“That was a giant win for him,” Marullo said.

Rock Hill got a 4-0 decision at heavyweight, but then the weight classes cycled back to the lower weights at 106-pounds and Fort Mill took off winning five straight weight classes.

The Jackets won the next three weight classes to secure the victory with Luke Van Beynum (106) and Jacob Nally (113) getting pins. Lincoln Greene (120) got a 9-0 major decision to put the score at 40-15 locking in the win for Fort Mill.

The Jackets finished out the match with wins from Tucker Gibson (126) getting a 9-1 major and then a pin from Logan Shope (132) in the second period closed things out.

The win puts Fort Mill at 19-2 overall and 4-0 in the region with one region match left as they travel to Nation Ford next Wednesday, Jan. 24 to finish out the regular season.
