
ANDERSON – The Nation Ford Falcons golf team qualified for the 5A Division II state tournament with an eighth-place finish at the Upper State tournament.
Nation Ford shot a 306 to finish eighth, edging Catawba Ridge by 10 strokes. The Copperheads finished ninth with a 316 and Fort Mill was 10th with a 319. The top eight teams made the state tournament held May 19 and 20 at The Cliffs Mountain Course.
The Upper State tournament was held at The Club at Brookstone in Anderson County on Wednesday, May 14. It had originally been scheduled to be held on Monday, May 12, but rains pushed the tournament to May 14. The tournament was an 18-hole, one-day tournament.
Greenville won the Upper State tournament with a 279 with host TL Hanna coming in second with a 283 and Indian Land finishing third at 294.
Nation Ford was led by an even par 72 from Carter Smith. He was followed with a 73 from Harrison LaPointe and a 79 from Justin Wosje. Oliver LaPointe and Connor Mills each had rounds of 82 for the Falcons.
Catawba Ridge was led by a 77 from Bray Vining, who qualified as an individual for next week’s state tournament. Niam Sethi, who also qualified as an individual, shot a 79 and both Muller Otto and Carter Mitten each shot a pair of 80s for the Copperheads.
Fort Mill was led by Baker Tolentino, who qualified as an individual for the state tournament, with an even par 72. Noah Jones, who qualified as well as an individual, shot a 79 for the Jackets and Andrew Blocher and Nicholas Harper each had rounds of 84.
