Softball in a glove at home plate

With a big first inning to kickstart them, the Nation Ford Falcons softball team would cruise to a 12-0 win over Spring Valley on Senior Night.

Nation Ford honored three seniors before the game in – Emma Skovran, Rya Reynolds and Ava Schier – and then went out and score eight runs in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone.

“It helped us get confidence,” said Nation Ford head coach Craig Brown. “It was nice to come out swinging. It is the most aggressive I have seen them come out. I was very proud of them. It takes the emotion of senior night out. I am proud of the girls. It was a big win for us.”

Pitcher Kailey Alston threw a two hitter and struck out three for the Falcons. Offensively, Nation Ford got 13 hits as both Skovran and Brooke Ressler got three hits in the game. Ressler added three RBIs as well.

In the first inning, the Falcons had seven hits as Ressler doubled twice in the inning, while Skrovan, Tori Baldino, Makayla Bess, Rachel Studer and Alaina Holyfield all singled in the inning.

Nation Ford scored four more runs in the bottom of the second inning as Baldino doubled, Abigail Loser tripled, Jackie Knol had a sacrifice fly and Studer singled to keep the scoring going for the Falcons. Both Baldino, Studer and Loser would have two RBIs in the game.

Leading 12-0 after two innings, Nation Ford had what they needed and finished the game three innings later due to the 10-run mercy rule.

The Falcons are now 7-8 overall on the season and 5-3 in Region 3-5A play sitting in third place currently. They still have two more region games left against Blythewood and Clover next week.
