CHESNEE – Back -to-back errors in the bottom of the seventh inning allowed Chesnee Post 48 to rally for an 8-7 win over Fort Mill Post 43 seniors Wednesday.

Post 43 struggled on the mound and in the field with nine walks and three errors in the game. The loss dropped them to 1-1 on the season.

Fort Mill picked up in their second game of the season, where they left off in game one starting things off pretty well.

A two out double by Jonathan Barschow scored Zach Jennings and Nico Bartolotti, who both reached base with a walk. A single by Ben Wilson added a third run for Post 43 scoring Barschow.

Chesnee came back with a run in the bottom of the first inning off a hit and an error by Post 43.

Fort Mill got that one run back as Simon Fernandez drove in Brennan Helms.

Chesnee rallied to tie the game at four in the second scoring three runs off two doubles and two walks.

Post 43 made a change at pitcher in the third inning putting in Logan Sulli and pulling starter John Dober, who allowed four runs on three hits while walking two and striking out three.

Things settled down for both teams in the fourth inning. Then in the fifth inning, Post 43 found their bats.

A two out single by Wilson and then back-to-back doubles by Helms and Hunter Busque scored three runs as Post 43 went up 7-4.

Chesnee didn’t go quietly as they scored a run on a bases loaded walk with two outs leading to Lane Ross coming in. Sulli would go two and a third inning allowing two runs on one hit and three walks while striking out four.

Post 43 threatened in the sixth inning, but couldn’t get a run despite having runners at second and third, while clinging to a 7-6 lead.

Ross went an inning and a third as he walked two and struck three out, without allowing a hit.

Liam Quinn walked two in the bottom of the seventh inning in between getting two outs before the errors hurt Post 43.

At the plate, Barschow went 1-4 with two RBIs and Busque went 1-2 with two RBIs. Wilson went 2-3 with an RBI and Fernandez went 1-4 with an RBI.

Post 43 now has some time off as they won’t play again until on the road Friday, June 7 at Concord.
