Nation Ford’s Caitlyn Stolarek looks to move around an Eastside defender during the Falcons game on March 14.

The Eastside Eagles girls’ lacrosse team scored with 27 seconds left in overtime to snatch a win from the Nation Ford Falcons.

Eastside won 10-9 and dropped the Falcons to 0-5 on the season.

“The girls are making progress,” said Nation Ford head coach Emily Daly. “We are young this year. We lost nine seniors, eight of them starters and one All-American. I am proud of how far they have come. We have a hard season. As long as they stay positive, we will be fine.”

Nation Ford wasted no time jumping out to a lead as Canaan Ross scored 12 seconds into the match.

Eastside got just as many opportunities early in the first quarter, but the Falcons defense was on top of their game.

About midway through the opening period, the Falcons doubled its lead as Caitlyn Stolarek scored to put Nation Ford ahead 2-0.

Eastside got on the board just 20 seconds later with their first goal of the match. The Eagles tied the match at two with 3:31 left in the first quarter.

The Falcons’ Ava Mayes scored with three seconds remaining in the first quarter to tie the match at three before the horn.

Mayes opened the second quarter scoring about two minutes into play for the Falcons. Ross kept the momentum in Nation Ford’s corner coming back with two more goals in 60 seconds to put them up by three.

Defensively, the Falcons were able to keep Eastside out of the net in the second quarter, despite them having their chances. Nation Ford took a 6-3 lead to the break.

Eastside broke out of an 11-minute slump scoring 48 seconds into the second half and then cutting into the Falcons’ lead even more 12 seconds later with another goal.

Ross scored her fourth goal at the 6:44 mark of the third quarter for the Falcons. Stolarek scored her second goal of the match two and a half minutes later for Nation Ford as they took a two-goal lead to the fourth quarter.

Stolarek opened the fourth quarter getting a hat trick for herself and putting Nation Ford up 9-6.

Like they did for most of the match, Eastside would score and try to gain possession on a consistent basis. While the possession wasn’t as consistent, the Eagles were able to pull within one with about three minutes left in the match. Eastside then tied the match at nine with 57 seconds remaining in regulation.
