The Catawba Ridge wrestling team swept a tri-match Wednesday beating both Buford and York.

The wins improved the Copperheads to 9-2 over all the win against York opened their Region 3-4A schedule.

“We got a lot to work on,” said Copperheads head coach Nick Hansen. “We are getting there each day. It is nice to see our young guys do well. We are building for the future.”

Catawba Ridge opened the evening beating Buford 45-24.

The Copperheads jumped out to a 33-0 lead through the first six matches to set the pace.

Getting wins for Catawba Ridge was Angel Acosta at 113-pounds to start off with due to a forfeit. Josh Gets (120) then got a pin and that was followed by another forfeit to Wyatt Ellison (126).

Clark Ostendorf (132) got a 11-0 major and Cole Stukitz (138) picked up a first period pin to put the Copperheads up 28-0.

Levi Jones (144) got a 17-2 tech fall before Buford picked up their first win. Jackson Rozelle (157) got a 10-8 decision and Beau Nicoll (175) got a 10-3 decision. Jarrett Eubanks (190) finished out the winning for the Copperheads with a first period pin.

The Copperheads beat York 68-11.

Against York, Gets opened with a first period pin to put Catawba Ridge up 6-0. York got a tech fall at 126-pounds, but then the Copperheads started to pull away with wins from Ostendorf, Cole Stukitz, Jones, and Ryan Stukitz to go up 26-5.

Rozelle, Carson Silvers (165), Nicoll, Jacob Webster (hwt.) and Acosta (113) all got wins by forfeit.

Eubanks and Alex Johnson (215) picked up wins by pin to finish out the match.

The Catawba Ridge boys basketball team beat Woodmont 101-53 to open the McDonald’s Big Mac Classic at Byrnes High School. They will play Mauldin Thursday, Dec. 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the semifinals of the tournament back at Byrnes. Catawba Ridge improved to 9-1 with the win.
