The Catawba Ridge Copperheads held their final two signings of the school year this past week.

The school had two signing ceremonies. The first one was earlier this week on Wednesday with Alexa Dubrow signing to play soccer at Milsap College.

The past two seasons on varsity for the Copperheads, she has scored 13 goals in 21 games and had nine assists to go along with that accounting for 33 points in those two seasons.

The second signing ceremony was Friday afternoon where four track athletes revealed their choice of colleges. Three of the four athletes were at the ceremony with only Maddy Mack missing the ceremony as she was out of town for a competition.

Mack will be heading to the University of South Carolina to run both cross-country and long-distance track events like the 1,600 and 3,200-meters.

The three that were there were Avery Shope, Josh Ehresman and Jonathan Hairston, all of which will be heading to different colleges. Catawba Ridge cross-country and track coach David Helms said all three of the signees brought a lot to the table for the track program.

“We got quite a few moving on to the next level,” Helms said. “A lot of Division I. It is always exciting to have athletes sign to college. Not everyone gets to do it. I am proud of all three of them.”

Shope will be going to North Greenville University and running both cross-county and the 1,600-meters in track.

“She is a very unique athlete,” Helms said. “She loves to learn and to get better.”

Ehresman will be heading to Lees-McRae College to throw shot put and discus, among other things.

“He always had the potential to do great things,” Helms said. “He attached himself to the sport. He really poured himself into the craft of throwing.”

Hairston will be heading to Indian Tech University, which is in Fort Wayne, In., where he will be running the 200 and 400-meters.

“He is an amazing young man,” said Catawba Ridge assistant track coach Eddie Young. “He is confident in his abilities.”
