COLUMBIA – The Catawba Ridge girls’ track team came away from the 4A state track meet on Saturday, May 18 with a top 15 finish.

Ridge View High School won both the boys’ and girls’ 4A track championships, while Catawba Ridge finished 14th overall in the girls’ meet. The Copperheads boys’ finished 17th overall.

The Catawba Ridge girls came away with 18 points and were led by Sydney Pierce in the pole vault as she finished third clearing 10.5 feet and Olivia Dubrow had two top five finishes in the shot put and the discus. In the shot put, she threw 38 feet for a fourth-place finish and in the discus, she threw 132 feet, 1 inch to finish third.

Another two-event athlete, Samirah Anderson finished 14th in the 110-meter hurdles in 18.54 and 15th in the long jump in 15 feet, 6 inches.

The Copperheads’ Bella Cardozo finished 14th in the girls’ 3,200-meter in 12:19 and Isabella Pierre finished 16th in the girls’ 400-meter in 1:02.

The Catawba Ridge girls finished eighth in the 4×800 relay in 10:16.

In the boys’ meet, Catawba Ridge had 11 points. Joshua Dobson led the Catawba Ridge boys with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter in 49.21. He also came in 15th in the 200-meter in 23.02.

Catawba Ridge’s Zach Webster also competed in two events in the shot put and discus. He finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 149 feet, 5 inches and 13th in the shot put with a throw of 44 feet.

The Copperheads’ Brady Mack finished 11th in the 400-meter in 50.39 and Max Conetta finished 11th in the 1,600-meter in 4:32.

In other field events, Jalen Cunningham finished 13th in the high jump clearing 6 feet, 1 inch and Ean Brown finished 14th in the same event clearing the same height for the Copperheads. In the pole vault, Jackson Rozelle finished 14th clearing 11 feet for Catawba Ridge.

In the relay events, Catawba Ridge finished seventh in the boys 4×800 in 8:12 and 14th in the boys 4×100 in 43.68.
