Catawba Ridge’s Brooke Mehlhouse led the Lady Copperheads in the 5A Division II Upper State Championship at Chester.

CHESTER – Both the Catawba Ridge Copperheads and Nation Ford Falcons have qualified for the 5A Division II state golf tournament.

Catawba Ridge finished third and Nation Ford finished seventh to make the tournament held Oct. 27 and 28 at the Hackler Golf Course at Coastal Carolina University by finishing in the top eight at the 5A Division II Upper State tournament held at Chester Golf Club. Fort Mill finished ninth overall and missed the tournament by seven strokes.

TL Hanna won the event with a team score of 298. Northwestern was second with a 342 and Catawba Ridge was third with a 343.

The Copperheads were led by Brooke Mehlhouse with an 80. She was followed with a pair of 87s from both Jordan Lyons and Charley Barron-Haggarty. Anjali Peddisetty finished the scoring for Catawba Ridge with an 89.

Nation Ford finished seventh with a 366 and was led by an 83 from Piper Sabino. Her score was followed with a 90 from Mary Kate Quinlan and a 96 from Brooke Parker. Campbell Reiking finished the scoring for the Falcons with a 97.

Fort Mill shot a 379 and was led by Claire Collins, who shot an 85 and made the state tournament as an individual. Lauren Venino shot a 92 for Fort Mill and made the state tournament for the Jackets as well. Skylar Sartwell shot a 97 and Campbell Grant finished with a 105 to round out the scoring for Fort Mill.

Greenville took the eighth and final spot for the state tournament with a 372.

Oct. 20 Roundup

The Catawba Ridge girls’ tennis team beat Nation Ford 4-2 to finish the regular season. Winning for Catawba Ridge was Abby Russell 6-1, 6-1 and Jane Rohrmeier 6-1, 6-0 in singles. Brooklynn Schuyler and Elaina Beilstein won 6-4, 7-5 in No. 2 doubles and Gracyn Root and Skylar White won 6-4, 6-4 in No. 1 doubles. Winning for Nation Ford was Ansley McDonald 6-2, 6-2 and Piper Land 6-2, 6-1. Nation Ford finished the regular season at 9-3, while Catawba Ridge finished at 7-5.
