Catawba Ridge’s Ava Delise looks to find room to score during the Copperheads match against Eastside Thursday.

Despite being in just their fourth year of existence, the Catawba Ridge girls’ lacrosse team set the school record for wins for the program with an 11-8 win over the Eastside Eagles Thursday.

Catawba Ridge improved to 7-6 to close out the regular season with a win and will wait to see how things unfold regarding the 4A state playoffs.

“I hope this puts us with a better seeding than we were last year,” said Catawba Ridge head coach Pat Gormley. “The girls played much more patient. They played solid defense.”

The Lady Copperheads were led by Ava Delise and Julia McKnight, both of which got hat tricks in the game.

Catawba Ridge and Eastside opened the game going back and forth scoring the first two goals as Delise got her first goal of the game about three minutes into play. Delise scored 12 minutes later after a scoring drought by both teams to give the Copperheads at 2-1 lead.

Paige Conroy and Lydia McCarter extended that lead for Catawba Ridge to 4-2 before Eastside would battle back to tie the match at 4-4 going to halftime.

In the second half, Catawba Ridge opened with a 6-0 run as Delise scored the first two goals of the second half and then McKnight would get her first goal with about 15:30 left to put the Copperheads up 7-4. Ember Rosowski scored for Catawba Ridge and then both McKnight and McCarter would get their second goals of the game to make it 10-4, before Eastside could score again.

McKnight would score her third goal of the game with eight minutes left to make it 11-5, before Eastside would try to rally one more time scoring the next three goals, but came up short.

Fort Mill

The Fort Mill baseball team took game two of their series against Nation Ford winning 10-4 and clinched the season series as they improved to 12-8 overall and 8-3 in Region 3-5A. Zach Jennings and Drew Gaff had two hits for Fort Mill and Nick Sholl got the win on the mound for the Jackets. Fort Mill had two big innings scoring six runs in the third to go up 6-1 and then three runs in the seventh. Nation Ford was led by Jackson Childs who went 3-4 at the plate with two RBIs. The Falcons used six pitchers in the game with starter Bradyn Deaton getting the loss on the mound. Nation Ford drops to 10-10 overall and 5-6 in the region.

The Fort Mill girls’ lacrosse team lost to Myers Park 13-10 to close out their regular season finishing 9-7 overall.

The Fort Mill boys’ lacrosse team beat Catawba Ridge 11-9 to finish their regular season at 6-10 overall. Catawba Ridge dropped to 5-8 overall to finish their regular season.

The Fort Mill girls’ soccer team beat Nation Ford 3-2 to improve to 4-3 in Region 3-5A and 8-7-1 overall. Nation Ford drops to 2-6 in region play and 7-9 overall.

Nation Ford

The Nation Ford boys’ lacrosse team beat Dutch Fork to finish their regular season matches and improved to 13-3 overall on the season with the 13-10 win.

The Nation Ford tennis team finished their Region 3-5A schedule with a 4-2 win over Fort Mill. Nation Ford finished the region at 8-2. Winning for Nation Ford was Ian Drane (6-3, 5-7, 14-12); Akhil Kanthamneni (6-0, 6-4); George Lynch (5-7, 6-3, 10-4); Ziad Baki (6-3, 5-7, 10-8). Winning for Fort Mill was Jack Childs (6-4, 6-1) and Cade Simms/Lucas Choelo in doubles (7-5, 6-1).

Catawba Ridge

The Catawba Ridge baseball team beat Indian Land 7-6 to win the season series and improve to 16-4 overall and 11-1 in Region 3-4A. Owen Noonan went 3-4 with an RBI and both Sam Schwamb and Ethan Solnick went 2-3. Peyton Dhein pitched a complete game allowing four hits while striking out 10.

The Catawba Ridge softball team beat Indian Land 7-0 to improve to 17-3 overall and 9-0 in Region 3-4A. Chloe Burger pitched a two-hit shutout and Jenna Gardner went 3-3 with two RBIs, while Audrey Wilson and Jaidyn Harris each went 2-4 with an RBI.

The Catawba Ridge golf team beat York and Cherryville in a tri-match at Spring Lake Country Club. The Copperheads shot a 162 and was led by Hunter Warren with a 34. OT Mitchell shot a 37 and Miller Otto finished with a 45. Drew White rounded out the scoring with a 46 for Catawba Ridge.

The Catawba Ridge tennis team fell to Indian Land 5-1. The only Copperhead getting a win was Koen Tesimale at No. 5 singles winning 6-2, 6-3.
