Fort Mill’s Broden Mitcheson wrestles his Clover opponent at 165-pounds during their Region 3-5A match on Tuesday, Jan. 13.

All three local high schools were supposed to start the 2025 5A wrestling dual playoffs today, but that has been halted for now because of snow that has blanketed the state.

The South Carolina High School League released a statement that the playoffs are on hold because of the weather that is rolling through much of the state. The first and second round of matches were scheduled to be held Saturday, Jan. 31 with the playoffs running through next week culminating with the state championships being held Saturday, Feb. 7 at Dreher High School in Columbia.

There is no timeline on when the playoffs will start. Fort Mill had tried to get ahead of the curve by moving their first and second round matches from Jan. 31 to Jan. 30, but that didn’t occur as planned.

The playoffs are set up to have three teams in one location with the top four seeds getting first round byes. Two teams will wrestle first with the winner facing one of the top four teams in the second round.

In the Upper State, the top four teams include Fort Mill, which is the top seed, at 26-0 on the season. They are scheduled to host Woodmont and Northwestern. The Jackets will wrestle the winner of that match in the second round. Fort Mill has homecourt advantage through the Upper State championship being the No. 1 seed. The Jackets have won 63 consecutive dual matches.

Catawba Ridge finished the regular season at 15-10 overall and is the sixth seed in the Upper State. They are scheduled to wrestle Gaffney in the first round at host site TL Hanna High School in Anderson County, with the winner wrestling TL Hanna afterwards.

Nation Ford finished the regular season at 20-11 and is the 10th seed overall. They will travel to host site Eastside High School and will take on Greenville in the first round of the playoffs, with the winner facing Eastside in the second round.
