Nation Ford’s Owen McCullough returns a serve during the Falcons match March 25 against Fort Mill.

The Nation Ford Falcons edged out the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets on the tennis court handing them their first loss of the season.

Nation Ford beat Fort Mill 4-3 with three of the matches going to three set tiebreakers. The Falcons won two of the three tiebreakers.

At No. 1 singles, Nation Ford’s Colt Mohler beat Ethan Franklin 7-5, 6-2 and the Falcons’ Davis Glasco beat Jack Childs at No. 2 singles by scores of 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Nation Ford’s Owen McCullough won at No. 3 singles over Noah Mills 6-1, 7-6 (7-1), while at No. 4 singles Fort Mill’s Arnav Meshram won 6-2, 6-3 over the Falcons’ Zach Robinson. Patrick Wright also got a win at No. 5 singles for Fort Mill beating Nation Ford’s Jacob Brancato 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.

In doubles, Fort Mill won at No. 2 doubles with Xander Pak and Lucas Coelho 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 to tie the match at 3-3. In No.1 doubles, Nation Ford’s McCullough and Glasco teamed to win 6-3, 6-4 giving the Falcons the match.

The Nation Ford girls’ soccer team won 2-0 over Catawba Ridge to improve to 10-2-1 overall and 4-0 in Region 3-5A. Catawba Ridge dropped to 9-3 and 3-1 in the region.

The Nation Ford girls’ lacrosse team fell 16-5 to AC Flora on the road and dropped to 1-8 on the season.

The Catawba Ridge softball team beat Nation Ford 7-0 to improve to 14-0 on the season and 4-0 in Region 3-5A. Nation Ford dropped to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in the region.

The Nation Ford boys’ golf team shot a two-day total of 618 at the Bengal Invitational to finish in ninth place. On March 25, the Falcons shot a 307 and was led by a 72 from Justin Wosje, followed by a 75 from Carter Smith and a 78 from Harrison LaPointe. Oliver LaPointe finished with an 82.

The Catawba Ridge boys’ golf team finished 21st at the Bengal Invitational with a second day score of 345.
