Fort Mill’s Brody Harris opened the match against Weddington at 106-pounds.

CHARLOTTE – The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets tore through three opponents in a quad dual in North Carolina.

The Jackets beat host Palisades, Weddington, and Olympic. The quad sweep puts Fort Mill at 9-0 on the season.

“We have wrestled some tough matches early in the season,” said Fort Mill head coach Adam Marullo. “Weddington is a solid program. They have some good athletes. We have some tough individual tournaments coming up. December has been a grind, but January is a new season with the region starting.”

Fort Mill opened the quad match with their toughest opponent in Weddington in the four-team match.

Fort Mill made quick work as they would win 66-16. The Jackets started out going up 36-0 with five pins and a forfeit. Brody Harris (106), Jacob Nally (120), and Cole Wartinger (126) all got first period pins. Grayson Wallen (132) and Lincoln Greene (138) got second period pins, and Luke Van Beynum (113) got a forfeit.

Weddington scored a decision at 144-pounds, but Fort Mill rattled off three straight pins.

Keenan Coston (150) started things back on the right path for the Jackets with a pin for Fort Mill. Broden Mitcheson (157) and Vincent Damico (165) each got a first period pin as well.

Weddington won two consecutive matches at 175 and 190, before Maurice Lawrence (215) and Jonathan DaSilva (hwt.) won with first period pins to close the match out.

Against host Palisades, Fort Mill won easily 72-12. The Jackets went up 18-0 with Van Beynum getting a forfeit and both Nally and Wartinger getting first period pins.

Fort Mill dropped a match at 144-pounds. Coston and Mitcheson got things started again for the Jackets. Damico won with a second period pin and Mason Metcalf (175) won by forfeit.

Jack Kadish (190), Krystian Villatoro (215) and Da Silva each won with a first period pin. Harris finished the match with a forfeit.

Fort Mill finishes the quad dual beating Olympic 71-8. Winning for the Jackets was Morrison Murphy (120) to start things off with a second period pin. Nally won by forfeit and Greene won with a first period pin. Jayden Nguyen (144) won by forfeit and Brandon Hughes (150) got a win in the first period with a pin. Ethan Coughenour (165) and Metcalf won by forfeit, while Ted Ernst (190) got a 16-0 tech fall and Lawrence won by injury forfeit. Da Silva, Harris, and Van Beynum all got pins to wrap the match up.

The Catawba Ridge girls’ basketball team lost 50-36 to Chapin and dropped to 4-5 on the season. The Catawba Ridge boys’ basketball team beat Chapin 48-34 to improve to 3-5 on the season. Catawba Ridge opens Region 3-5A play at Fort Mill on Friday, Dec. 20.
